Write with an imaginary machete strapped to your thigh. —Laini Taylor

Hi! Thanks for checking out my site. As a lifelong lover of words, my writing journey began as a child, when I filled page after page with poetry and short stories. My interest in writing expanded into journalism and PR in high school and college, and I spent a decade working in various book-related industries, including libraries, book stores, and publishing. I also served as an editorial intern at a publishing house for two years. I received my MFA in Creative Writing: Writing for Young People from Lesley University's Creative Writing program. These days, I primarily write YA speculative fiction (under the "writing" tab above). I also blog sporadically about books and the writing life (below). You can find more about me on Twitter and Tumblr.

Welcome to this week’s “Currently” post! CURRENTLY: LOVING I really, really like e.l.f. cosmetics. They are incredibly affordable, and I find that the products are pretty good, especially considering the price. I’ve been using them for nearly a year now, and the primer, foundation, and loose powder are a part of my regular makeup routine. Lately, I’ve been on the…

Welcome to this week’s “Currently” post! CURRENTLY: LOVING I’ve renewed my obsession with the Fitnessista’s brownie batter protein bites. I used to make these things ALL. THE. TIME., but took a break last fall. They’re back now, and as delicious as ever. They’re sweetened with protein powder and maple syrup instead of sugar, and the slightly crunchy blend of coconut,…

Welcome to this week’s “Currently” post! CURRENTLY: LOVING Because I live in a small apartment with two cats, odor control is very important. This means cleaning regularly (especially the litterbox), and running an air filter 24/7. I also like to supplement with incense and candles, to keep the air smelling good. Not only does it make the house more pleasant,…

Happy 4th!

Happy 4th of July to those who celebrate. Due to the holiday and my vacation, there won’t be a CURRENTLY post this week. Those will be back in action in two weeks!!

Welcome to this week’s “Currently” post! CURRENTLY: LOVING In my last CURRENTLY post, I mentioned that I’ve started taking a collagen supplement. The supplement itself is fine, but sometimes it’s difficult to figure out how to take it. Generally speaking, I mostly just drink water, and I don’t want to dissolve my collagen in a plain glass of water. I…

Welcome to this week’s “Currently” post! CURRENTLY: LOVING Right now I love that I got to visit with my amazing high school BFF this past week. I hadn’t seen her in 14 years, but the minute I walked in her door it was as if no time had passed. We immediately fell into our old patterns, and spent hours laughing,…

Welcome to this week’s “Currently” post! CURRENTLY: LOVING My dinosaur necklace, which I picked up at the Modcloth In Real Life popup store that appeared here in Austin. I’m a sucker for dinosaurs and jewelry, so it’s no surprise this particular piece caught my attention. I love the mix of whimsy and delicacy, and the fact that it pretty much goes…

Welcome to this week’s “Currently” post! CURRENTLY: LOVING My new tea mug and spoon holders. I’m not—and probably never will be—a coffee drinker. For me, tea is the go-to warm beverage of choice, particularly herbal teas and those without a lot of bitter tannins. I find that tea, like wine, tastes best when served in a vessel of the right…

Welcome to this week’s “Currently” post! CURRENTLY: LOVING I have recently developed a love for writing flash fiction. When I was in grad school, I designed an independent study on short stories, which have always interested me, but I never explored flash fiction. However, I recently discovered Erin Morgenstern’s flax-golden tales project, in which she wrote original, ten-sentence stories to…

Short Stories and Flash Fiction

Just a quick note to let everyone know that I write a lot of short stories and flash fiction. I’m currently in the midst of the Ten-Sentence Story project, which is a flash fiction series. Each story is composed of one image and ten sentences — no more, no fewer. All of these are published on my Tumblr, but there…
